Most Common Newborn Skin Diseases

After birth, the baby's skin has the same structure as adult skin, but its physiology differs because it is still immature and fragile.

Protective hydrolipic skin on the top of the skin is virtually non-existent and not durable, it does not yet function as a barrier, resulting in skin being more vulnerable to friction, infections and injuries.

As a result, mild skin conditions may occur, even when all hygiene rules are followed.
The sebaceous glands after birth are in a resting state.

A normal seborrhea insists some months after birth (neonatal acne), until about three months and until adolescence the skin does not again produce sebum.

The baby's skin is therefore more prone to dehydration and dryness since the sweat glands do not function properly and the skin is more sensitive to changes in ambient temperature.

As a result, mild skin conditions may occur, even when all hygiene rules are followed.
Let's look at the most common conditions and their treatment

Diabetic irritation: It is manifested by redness, often painful, due to a local irritation (moisture, acid pH from the urine, high temperature).
You should therefore thoroughly clean this area with a moisturizing cleansing emulsion or a soft foaming hygiene product, paying particular attention to skin folds.

Baby wipes can be practical, but their use should be limited.
When the skin is completely dry, an irritating cream, easily absorbed, will protect the area.

Eczema: These are red and dry scales, locally around the mouth and cheeks due to the baby's cold, air and shawls.
In this case it is recommended to use a moisturizing or soothing and antiseptic cream during the winter with zinc or a cold softening cream.

Ninid or seborrhoeic dermatitis: Appears in the first months of life.
It is due to excessive sebum secretion that covers the skin with a thin film on the face, head and eyebrows and creates white, thick flakes on the skin.

As new mothers, it is suggested to make a soft massage with almond oil on the baby's head to soften the flakes and in the morning to bathe the baby with a mild shampoo.

Sweating: Causes of excessive sweating.
They grow on the top of the chest, high on the chest, on the neck and the armpits.

Neonatal acne: Appears at birth in the form of small white cysts with sebum, nose, chin and forehead, as a sebum recapture and disappears by itself after a month or so.

Atopic dermatitis: It usually starts at around three months old on the cheeks. Symptoms are dry skin with peeling, redness and itching due to secondary contamination from the golden staphylococcus.
In this case of mild forms of atopic dermatitis, it is suggested that the baby's skin is very well hydrated.

If, of course, you find that the infection is great and the baby seems to suffer or even have a fever, it is advisable to visit a pediatrician.

In general, if the skin of the baby does not show specific skin problems, daily topical application of products that protects, moisturizes and soothes, with neutral pH (around 7), is highly tolerated and can only be found in pharmacies.
